Present your research in an understandable and compelling way in just three minutes!

For researchers, there are many opportunities to communicate their research to a lay audience. This requires a concise, clear and interesting message or “pitch”, that can be delivered in a short time. Yet, we rarely practice this format because we usually discuss our research within the scientific community.

This workshop gives a comprehensive introduction to the art of pitching and storytelling. We will first look at what makes a pitch successful and how to engage one’s audience from the start. Participants will think about the 'big picture' and the significance of their research question, they will work intensely on their pitch and receive valuable feedback from their peers.

Upon completion of the workshop, you will be able to present complex scientific content in a concise and compelling mannner. Whether you are in front of a professional audience, potential funders, or the general public, you will be able to engage your audience and convince them of the relevance of your work.

The workshop can be credited towards the ASD certificate “Leadership, Management, Science Communication and Knowledge Transfer Certificate” in module III or IV (4 AE).

Chemist, project manager, and start-up enthusiast; currently officer for entrepreneurship education and start-up support at the University of Konstanz. Graduated from the University of Konstanz in materials chemistry, further research experience at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA) and the University of Granada (Spain). International publications on electrochemistry, microfluidics, and stone conservation. Certified project manager for industrial chemistry by the GDCh, and holder of a European Business Competence License. Previous work experience in the chemical industry, a biomedical startup, science communication, and data science.

Dr Anja Weidenmüller

Biologist, Systemic coach; currently innovation scout and entrepreneurship consultant at the University of Konstanz. Graduated from the University of Würzburg in animal behavior, further research experience at Cornell University, Arizona State University, University of Würzburg and University of Konstanz. International publications on animal behavior, experience in university teaching and student consulting. Further work experience in conservation, team coaching, team building and individual systemic counseling.
